Two members of UTSC's Department of Psychology—professor Steve Joordens and senior lecturer Janelle Leboutillier—were recently honoured for their exceptional commitments to teaching and learning.
Joordens received the prestigious 2011-2012 Teaching Award from the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations, which recognizes outstanding performance in teaching at an Ontario university.
“It really is fantastic to win this award,” says Joordens. “Yes, I love to teach and I feel truly privileged to interact daily with fantastic students at a great university. But I also want to highlight the critical role played by the whole team I work with, from Hanan Domloge, who provides course support, to my graduate students and all the TAs who do such a good job helping me teach. I really could not be successful without their support and commitment.”
Leboutillier received the UTSC Faculty Teaching Award, presented annually to a professor or lecturer on campus who demonstrates the highest excellence in undergraduate teaching.
“Receiving the UTSC faculty teaching award this year is a personal accomplishment that I am very proud of,” says Leboutillier. “I am very passionate about my discipline and I try to share this enthusiastically with my students. Personally, I find it most rewarding to receive updates from students after they graduate, knowing that in some small way, through our interactions together, I may have contributed to their successes.”
